8 days from arrival to departure · 7 nights. Arrival and transfer days are included in the schedule below. Reviewed 2026-10-18.
Travel ranges are editorial estimates before major delays. Confirm the route between your actual overnight addresses. Airport transfers need rental return and airline check-in buffers.
Numbered stops match your list. Overview locations are not entrances; select access points below. No driving route is drawn.
From arrival to departure.
Day 1. Arrive in Jackson
Travel: Jackson airport → your Jackson / park lodging: allow 20–60 minutes driving before stops.
Collect supplies and settle in; no major hike is assumed.
Day 2. Grand Teton valley scenery
Travel: Allow 1–2 hours local driving, depending on base.
Use designated viewpoints along open valley roads and a short Taggart-area or lakeside outing matched to conditions. A full mountain hike is not assumed.
Day 3. A second Teton district
Travel: Allow 1–2 hours local driving plus parking.
Visit Jenny Lake or the Colter Bay area. Check boat operating dates and book separately if desired; a boat ride is not required.
Day 4. Move north into Yellowstone
Travel: Jackson / southern Tetons → Old Faithful: allow 2.5–4 hours driving before stops and entrance delays.
Use the open South Entrance road. Treat West Thumb as optional; settle into the geyser district rather than driving the full loop.
Day 5. Old Faithful and thermal basins
Travel: Follow the Yellowstone geyser-day estimates; lodging commute additional.
Use the geyser field-guide day and keep a meal / eruption buffer. Skip a second basin if parking is full.
Day 6. Canyon and Hayden Valley
Travel: Allow 1.5–3 hours district-to-district driving depending on lodging.
Use the Canyon day and move toward the northern base. Stop choices depend on weather and wildlife delays.
Day 7. Mammoth and the northern range
Travel: Allow 2–3 hours Mammoth–Lamar return driving, plus wildlife stops.
Use the northern field-guide day. Keep the wildlife drive optional if weather or daylight is unsuitable.
Day 8. Depart via Bozeman
Travel: Gardiner → Bozeman airport: allow 1.5–2 hours driving, plus rental return and airport buffer.
For an early flight, stay in Bozeman the previous evening. Do not add a cross-park visit.
Have fewer days?
With six days, remove one Teton day and one Yellowstone district. Keep separate arrival and departure time; do not squeeze all districts into fewer days.
